Cave
Creek and Carefree have a unique and colorful history. Much of that history is
still reflected in the theme of special events and unique retail shops that dot
the streets.
The area's independent spirit has been nurtured for more than 100 years as
miners, ranchers and others looking to get away from it all settled in relative
seclusion near Black Mountain. Although increased urban growth throughout the
Valley has changed Carefree and Cave Creek, residents are still
down-to-earth folks who are civic-minded and active in the community. The
Sonoran Desert and the unique mountain terrain in the Desert Foothills area are
what attract most visitors.
Everything from the "Old West" to modern works of architecture can be
found within a short driving distance. Outdoors - best describes the lifestyle
of the Desert Foothills. Residents seem to have more free time. Time that
is spent hiking, biking, playing tennis and golf, enjoying incredible sunsets
and watching the night sky, with a million stars. Those who longed to escape
traffic lights and strip malls have found tranquility in Carefree and Cave
Creek. Natural habitat has been integrated into a planned residential
communities. Open space has been conserved, lot sizes are large but feature
"desert friendly" landscaping. Custom homes blend into the rocks and
surrounding mountain. Western tradition is evident in its southwestern
architecture and rambling ranch homes. It is here that you will find small horse
ranches.
